Looks like Gizmodo is suffering some enshittification itself...


I’ll have to watch the interview tomorrow, but it strikes me that “enshittification” is about as easily understood as any semi- nuanced terminology. Who can’t understand the meaning quickly, even if the details aren’t terribly well-defined?

I nominate this for the word of the year in dictionaries.

It is funny how these kind of essays don't critque the protagonist.

"Sweet universe save me from this tide of enshittification."

Nope. You do it. Atleast suggest a boycott of the listed entities.


Enshitification is also a feature of systems and services in which capitalism has little, if any, influence. Competition is one of the few things that fights against the long term trends of enshitification. When competition wanes, as in the case of monopolies such as Google (which has 9-10 monopolies at last count?), enshitification comes to the fore.
