'An AI Fukushima is inevitable': technology's immense potential and dangers (www.theguardian.com)

The biggest issue IMO is that an AI cannot be held accountable, so if it makes a mistake, there will have to be years of new legal precedent developed on who is accountable. Is it the company who bought the AI SaaS? Is it the company who developed the AI SaaS? Who do you sue for damages?

As a Japanese, I'm flagging this because "AI Fukushima" is an actual case of cultural appropriation.

The Fukushima #1 Nuclear Accident was the result of a combination of Mother Nature turning the dials up to 11 and the incumbent government at the time being too incompetent to deal with the sky falling. It was never about people shooting first before asking questions; if anything, Japanese ask way too many questions first before deciding whether to shoot.

The moron who used this phrase isn't even qualified to speak on matters involving nuclear energy nor artificial intelligence, either: He's a cancer researcher.

Science needs to be better than this literal bullshit and journalism needs to be better than just regurgitating bullshit with added sensational flair.
